A Bay Area general contractor is adding an estimator to the team that prices its school district work. This seat runs competitive public bids from the first set of plans to bid day, then stays with the job through buyout so the number holds up in the field. Direct-hire, full-time.

The work

Lead public school hard-bid pursuits from invitation to submission
Walk sites, attend pre-bid meetings, and work through specs, addenda, and bid forms
Own the takeoff and price labor, material, equipment, sub scopes, and general conditions
Build bid packages, chase sub coverage, and level the numbers that come back
Catch scope gaps and risk early and offer value engineering where it helps
Put together the final number, alternates, and allowances and get it in on time
Track bid results and keep school cost history current
Support buyout and hand off cleanly to operations after award

What you bring

5+ years estimating for a general contractor (strong mid-level estimators considered)
Hard-bid experience: takeoff, sub outreach, leveling, and bid-day assembly
K-12, DSA, or other public works estimating strongly preferred
Comfort with public bidding and procurement rules
Bluebeam, Excel, and takeoff and bid-management software
Degree in construction management or engineering, or equivalent experience

Logistics

Office-based in San Jose with job walks as needed
Bay Area local candidates; no relocation
U.S. work authorization required
