Leading Residential Homebuilder | Operational & Strategic Finance | High-Impact Leadership Role
A well-established and highly regarded homebuilder is seeking a Division Controller to oversee all financial operations, reporting, and planning for one of its most active divisions in the Sacramento region.
This is a key leadership opportunity for a finance professional who thrives at the intersection of operations and strategy. The ideal candidate brings deep accounting knowledge, strong business acumen, and experience supporting divisional growth within a fast-paced, construction-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead budgeting, forecasting, and monthly close for the division
Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal financial policies
Analyze and report on division performance, including margin, backlog, and KPI tracking
Oversee financial projections and assist with pricing and lot release strategies
Collaborate cross-functionally with land, construction, and sales leadership
Support and enforce internal controls, banking procedures, and risk management practices
Utilize ERP systems to drive reporting accuracy and operational visibility
Serve as financial advisor to the Division President and senior leadership
Manage and mentor the accounting team, promoting accountability and growth
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
6–8+ years of progressive experience in accounting or finance
Strong working knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
Excellent Excel and financial modeling skills
Experience in the homebuilding or real estate development industry preferred
ERP system experience (JD Edwards or similar) strongly preferred
Exceptional communication, leadership, and organizational abilities
Preferred Experience:
Previous experience in residential construction, homebuilding, or land development
Hands-on leadership of a divisional finance/accounting team
Proven ability to partner with operations and executive teams to support growth
