Controller

Roseville, CA · Accounting/Finance
Controller – Construction | Northern California
Executive-Level Financial Leadership | High-Growth Contractor | Immediate Hire

A market-leading framing contractor with a decades-long track record in large-scale residential and multi-family construction, is actively seeking a seasoned Controller to lead financial operations during a critical phase of growth. This is not a maintenance role—it's a pivotal leadership seat designed for a construction finance expert ready to drive change, improve systems, and guide strategic decision-making.
If you're a Controller—or an Assistant Controller ready to step up—with deep construction industry experience and the ability to partner directly with ownership, this is a rare and urgent opportunity.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage the full accounting function: A/P, A/R, G/L, job costing, payroll (in-house or outsourced)
  • Produce accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements, including job cost reports, WIP schedules, variance analysis, and margin tracking
  • Manage budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning in collaboration with the executive team
  • Lead working capital management and ensure strong internal controls, audit readiness, and compliance (tax filings, insurance, licensing)
  • Analyze and improve cost structures, overhead allocation, and job profitability
  • Provide project-level financial support to field teams and project managers
  • Oversee financial reporting to ownership and coordinate with external CPA firm for year-end close, reviews, and tax strategy
  • Identify and implement financial process improvements and ERP enhancements
  • Mentor and develop a small internal accounting/admin team
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, or related (CPA or MBA strongly preferred)
  • 7–10+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with at least 5 years in the construction industry
  • Expert knowledge of construction accounting, including job costing, WIP reporting, and GAAP compliance
  • Proficiency with construction accounting systems (QuickBooks, Sage, Viewpoint, or similar)
  • Strong Excel and analytical skills; comfortable modeling cash flow, margin scenarios, and financial KPIs
  • Proven leadership skills; able to manage staff, communicate with executives, and align finance with operations
  • Hands-on, highly organized, and effective in a fast-moving, team-oriented environment

This is a high-priority hire with direct impact on company performance. Opportunities like this—where you can take the financial reins of a growing contractor—don’t come around often.
