Controller – Construction | Northern California Executive-Level Financial Leadership | High-Growth Contractor | Immediate Hire A market-leading framing contractor with a decades-long track record in large-scale residential and multi-family construction, is actively seeking a seasoned Controller to lead financial operations during a critical phase of growth. This is not a maintenance role—it's a pivotal leadership seat designed for a construction finance expert ready to drive change, improve systems, and guide strategic decision-making. Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage the full accounting function: A/P, A/R, G/L, job costing, payroll (in-house or outsourced)
Produce accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements, including job cost reports, WIP schedules, variance analysis, and margin tracking
Manage budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning in collaboration with the executive team
Lead working capital management and ensure strong internal controls, audit readiness, and compliance (tax filings, insurance, licensing)
Analyze and improve cost structures, overhead allocation, and job profitability
Provide project-level financial support to field teams and project managers
Oversee financial reporting to ownership and coordinate with external CPA firm for year-end close, reviews, and tax strategy
Identify and implement financial process improvements and ERP enhancements
Mentor and develop a small internal accounting/admin team
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, or related (CPA or MBA strongly preferred)
7–10+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with at least 5 years in the construction industry
Expert knowledge of construction accounting, including job costing, WIP reporting, and GAAP compliance
Proficiency with construction accounting systems (QuickBooks, Sage, Viewpoint, or similar)
Strong Excel and analytical skills; comfortable modeling cash flow, margin scenarios, and financial KPIs
Proven leadership skills; able to manage staff, communicate with executives, and align finance with operations
Hands-on, highly organized, and effective in a fast-moving, team-oriented environment
